Sydney Opera House
The Sydney Opera House is one of the most recognized landmarks in the entire world. Its distinctive design attracts tourists throughout the year not only for the Opera, but for the variety of other performances that are held there.
You don’t have to go inside the Opera House to enjoy it. Many people choose to sit on the steps and take in the breathtaking Harbour views. There are also restaurants and cafes around the Opera House.
The Sydney Opera House was appointed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in June 2007. Photos of the Opera House appear in all tourist guides and magazines. There is no doubt that the Opera House is an Australian icon.
In recent years, the Opera House has seen performances not only by classical musicians and opera singers, but also by popular artists such as Tori Amos, The Foo Fighters and Neil Finn. The superb acoustics inside the Opera House make it a favorite amongst musicians. It is rare to be able to play in such a perfectly designed room and therefore musicians revel in this environment.
You can reach the Opera House by parking in one of the nearby parking stations and walking there. There is one wide path which leads all the way up to and around the Opera House.
You may also catch a Cityrail train to Circular Quay station and walk from there. You can never lose your way walking to the Opera House. It is so large that it’s always in view!
The Opera House is a spectacular building which needs to be seen to be believed. For many tourists it is the first point of call when they are in Sydney. It is similar to going to the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Empire State Building in America. It truly is a national icon and one that all Australians are proud of.
